GeoGebra Classic 5 App Reviews
The app while sporting many very useful features, is full of small bugs that makes it impossible to use. The advanced features of the software works very well but operating it is next to impossible. Geogebra 5 will let you enter a formular and display its result as a graph. However, it will re-format your formula and when you try to edit it, in the new syntax it will throw an error. Then you have to re-write your original formula all over again. Copy Paste tab operations are not in concurrance with OS X Guidelines and leaves the user with headaches and pain. The programmers, clearly know their stuff - math-wise. But they have put little effort into making the application operatable ! Even though the app is free, I would recommend you stay clear of it. At least until they make it work.
Altho this application is great, a lot of bugs remain. I have tried numerous amount of times to save a file and it does not save. I wish that this problem would be fixed asap. I think it is because of the accents and the special characters.
one of the best tools for teachers and students
i can not believe that it’s still free.
This app is great!
It’s easy to use, functional, and just a great app.
awesome
happy to see this app launched in OS X.
I really enjoied its function as a student (the CAS of it is great for computing calculus problems), but I don’t know why after several updates it still not support rentina display very well…seeking for a fix
I have been using GeoGebra for many years, and I have loved every iteration of it… until now. Most of what it does is still very, very good. It remains my go-to piece of software for dynamic geometry, and I find that I am using the graphing more and more often with my students. However, and this has been true with every iteration of GeoGebra 5 since I upgraded to Yosemite on the Mac, once I try to access the spreadsheet I am not able to put any data into the spreadsheet and I can no longer use the input bar. Once this is fixed, and I have no doubt it will be eventually, I will be back up to five stars. One other minor thing is that I customize the look of my app so that the buttons are down the left hand side instead of along the top. Yet when I add a spreadsheet or CAS, it wants to put the tools horizontally, but fits them into the side bar making the bar very wide until I go into settings and reclick on the tools on the left button.
It is free and incorporates geometry and algebra (I havent used the spreadsheet and statistics capabilities). It is great for creating graphs with sliders for demonstrations, exporting graphs in various formats for websites, documents, or figures to be used in tests. I use it to produce most of the figures I use when I produce LaTeX documents. (I do usually have to crop the output in Preview first). I could write all day about how good this app is, but it is free so just download it and find out for yourself. There are thousands of lessons already created and waiting for you. Go to geogebra.org and set up an account.
I recently came to GeoGebra having a background in design, not mathematics. I explore mathematical relationships of circles, polygons, etc out of curiosity and for integration into artwork. Apps like Blender and Inkscape, while great for design, do not offer mathematical precision for analyzing geometric relationships. I needed software that was visually oriented yet more specialized for math and in GeoGebra I found it. At first I gave this a 3-star rating because of initial frustration. After getting to know this app a bit better I feel it deserves more like a 4 or 5. My initial frustration was partly valid - the interface and construction tools could be implemented better. However I admit that half of my frustration was due to my expectations of how such an app should function and wanting it to behave in a way that is more visually intuitive versus how it actually behaves which is more mathematically exact. For example, I am used to being able to freely scale or rotate any geometric form in the design apps I use. In GeoGebra if you want to scale or rotate your construction you must change the value of the underlying shape that the rest of the construction is based on, and this may require changing how your construction is built. Also shapes can have dependencies in the sense that deleting a shape can cause other shapes it was derived from to also be deleted. I did not see the logic in this, but after discovering there is a feature that allows for all the steps of construction to be viewed in a sequence I now can appreciate that this app aims to preserve the exact recipe for how forms are constructed, and mathematically that is more valuable than being able to simply transform any shape on a whim. I still wish for better snapping implementation, a quick tool for generating inscribed or circumscribed geometry, more keyboard shortcuts, and the fixing of various annoyances like having to hide a polygon before you can select whats underneath it. But over all this is a great app. Where it could use improvement is in the interface and usability. Mathematically speaking it has been great for me and allowed me to take measurements with precision that was heretofore impossible for me using other software. I have also learned a few mathematical formulas as a result of using this. So for that I have to give it 5 stars. Being free and open source is also a huge plus. It does have some bugs and quirks but there is no other software like it that can compare.
this app is a good tool if it is your first tool in this kind of area. i am experienced in AUTOCAD. i found this software hard to use and not entirealy efficient.
It totally simplifies my math life; it also allows to copy nice looking graphs to clipboard and paste into the document, which is very useful feature.
The app is an incredible tool for doing geometry constructions when it works. I work with the 3D view a lot and generate 2d views through various planes and circles and find that all of the recent versions are VERY prone to crashing.
